Living Vs. Non Living

In our science unit, we are learning about what is a living object and what is not. Kindergarten learned that a living object needs water, food, air and sunlight to live. We took a nature walk and pointed out various things that were either living or not living. The children pointed out buildings, buses, cars, fences and lamp posts are all not living objects. They pointed out that people, trees and grass are all living objects. When we came back from our walk, we drew our conclusions in our science notebooks. Each child drew one object that was living and one that was not living. To further our knowledge, we spoke about some objects coming from a living thing that are no longer living. For example, paper comes from trees that are living however paper is not a living object.
