Globe vs. Map

The kindergarten class is diving into our Social Studies curriculum. We started off talking about what a globe is and what a map is? We listed the similarities and the differences. The children observed that a globe is round and you could only see one side at a time and that a map is flat, showing us both sides of the world at once. Morah demonstrated this idea by pretending a ball of play-doh was a globe. If left whole, the children could only see one side at a time. When cut in half and placed on the floor, you could see both sides at once, hence what a map shows us.
